Thomas C. Ferguson Law Library

The Ferguson Law Library

Judge Ferguson died on February 10th, 1991, in an Austin hospital at the age of 84 and is buried in Memorial Hills Mausoleum in Austin. In 1997 the family of Judge Ferguson donated his legal law library and many personal files to the Criminal Justice program at Burnet High School. Criminal Justice students at the school retrieved the books and created a memorial law library in his name. With the donation from the family of Attorney Nicholas Malantz the law library now has a collection of historical law books and text, many dating back to the 1850's. The library has become a fully stocked working law library with the addition of an electronic legal research database. The Lower Colorado River Authority employees also donated a large amount of funds for shelving. Students use the library to preserve law history in Burnet County, and to do legal research for class.. The library is open to the public by appointment.

The law library contains original transcripts from speeches and sermons by Judge Ferguson. Many have his original notes written on the typed speeches. In the image to the right:  His original bar certificate issued January 11th, 1929

One of the many rare issues of court opinions from the Nicholas Malantz addition. The volume on the left is from the "Texas Reports" and contains Case #1 from the Texas Supreme Court of the Republic of Texas, January 1840. Many volumes in the library are dated prior to the Civil War.
